Tommaso Pobega isn’t the only highly rated midfielder making a name for himself on loan at Spezia from one of Italy’s biggest clubs.

While the AC Milan-owned enforcer continues to attract interest from Leeds United and Leicester City, Lucien Agoume is reportedly emerging as a target for a club even higher up the food chain – European champions Bayern Munich.

According to FCInterNews, the Bundesliga leaders hope to add the 19-year-old Inter Milan starlet to a Francophile squad already containing World Cup winners Benjamin Pavard, Kingsley Coman, Lucas Hernandez and Corentin Tolisso.

Agoume has only started seven Serie A matches during his time at Spezia but the teenager, who has been likened to Paul Pogba due to his rangy stride and fine technical ability, has shown enough flashes of brilliance to suggest he may, in fact, have a future at the heart of Antonio Conte’s Nerazzurri midfield.

They obviously rate Agoume highly. There’s a reason why they fought off competition from clubs across Europe when snapping him up from Sochaux in 2019.

Inter invested about £4 million in the then 17-year-old starlet, seeing off competition from Arsenal and Manchester City.

Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United made a late attempt to hijack the deal too (FC Inter News).

“There were two other solutions with Manchester City and Arsenal positioning themselves and waiting,” agent Djibril Niang admitted to L’Est Republican.

“But this is not the priority choice of the player.”

Given that Agoume has played just 65 minutes of Serie A football in Inter colours, whether he made the right call choosing the San Siro over England remains to be seen.

But with Bayern sniffing around another fresh-faced Frenchman, Agoume appears destined for a bright future at the top of the European game, in Milan or Munich.
