Marseille’s new boss Rudi Garcia has responded to questions regarding an apparent approach from West Ham United.
The former Roma manager was asked by L’Equipe whether he had been offered a chance to take over from Slaven Bilic at West Ham he had this to say:
“Obviously. I studied everything. Whether the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga… I went where I felt the most wanted.”
He certainly did not confirm an approach from West Ham but he certainly suggests that there was another offer at least on the table.
West Ham manager Slaven Bilic
Garcia had been linked with a move to West Ham at the start of the month as Bilic was seeing his job security being scrutinised in the press – after a poor start to the season at West Ham.
Of course Garcia has now decided to return to French football, being tasked with taking Marseille back to their past glories.
Bilic has struggled to rekindle the form of last season at West Ham but he guided them to a win last weekend against Crystal Palace and will be hoping to make it two on the bounce as they face struggling Sunderland at the London Stadium.
Bilic, who did wonders at West Ham last season, should certainly not be at threat of losing his job but in the modern world of football he will need to continue bringing good performances for the Hammers.
