Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club wished Martin O’Neill a happy birthday yesterday.

Given the timing of the post, a few supporters panicked and thought the club had just announced the 69-year-old as Neil Lennon’s replacement!

Some more fans warned the club against appointing the Irishman, just in case it was in the back of Peter Lawwell’s mind after the birthday tweet.

Furthermore, one supporter actually said they’d take O’Neill as Lennon’s replacement.

They mention that they believe he still has a lot to offer, and with Roy Keane alongside him, the players could receive the spark they need.

Of course, this is all hypothetical, but it’s amazing to see how a simple happy birthday tweet can set a fanbase off like this!

If anything, it just goes to show how eager Celtic supporters are to receive even a shred of information about who will replace Lennon.

John Kennedy will take the reins until a replacement is found.

However, one man has already said he’d be interested in the vacancy, if The Sunday Post are to be trusted.

Former Inter Milan boss Walter Mazzarri is said to be keen on the job, and believes that Celtic are a huge club and hold great appeal.

We can’t argue with either of those things.

For now, though, let’s see how the Celtic fans on Twitter reacted to the club’s tweet to O’Neill…
