Luka Modric may be the master of ‘assisting the assist’ but, when he was merely a fresh-faced, playmaking puppy at Dinamo Zagreb, it was his job to finish chances as well as create them.
In a devastating final season at the Croatian giants before sealing that £16 million move to Tottenham Hotspur, Modric produced a career-best 17 goals from a number 10 role.
And if Lovro Majer really is the heir apparent to Real Madrid’s living legend, and many in Eastern Europe believe he may just be, the latest Croatian wonderkid to emerge at the capital club is certainly heading in the right direction.
Majer, the so-called ‘new Luka Modric’, is certainly performing in a manner befitting of the 2018 Ballon D’Or winner this season.
In 22 starts at club and international level, the Dinamo Zagreb talisman has produced ten goals and nine assists.
And with Majer eyeing a new challenge at the age of 22, the once-capped international shouldn’t be short of offers given his highly impressive run of form in the final third.

Calciomercato has reported Majer is a target for Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, Valencia, Sevilla and Leeds United ahead of the January transfer window.
It’s hard to imagine a selection of clubs better suited to getting the best out of a man who shares Modric’s defence-splitting talents.
Sevilla and Dortmund are famed throughout Europe for turning promising youngsters into elite-level match-winners, while an AC Milan side containing the mercurial talents of Rafael Leao, Jens Petter Hauge and Alexis Saelemaekers is dreaming of Scudetto glory after a decade of disappointment.
As for Leeds? What talented youngster wouldn’t want to spend a year or two in Marcelo Bielsa’s company?
