A look at new Leeds United head coach Garry Monk’s best and worst signings as Swansea City boss.
Swansea manager Garry Monk
Garry Monk has been confirmed as Leeds United head coach, becoming the seventh manager to work under Massimo Cellino at Elland Road.
The club confirmed the news at on their official website before presenting Monk at his press conference.
Talk will soon turn to potential signings he could make for Leeds with the transfer window upon us, but first here is a look at what he got right, and less so, at former club Swansea City, with three of his best signings, and three of his worst.
The good
Swansea City’s Lukasz Fabianski saves from West Ham’s Diafra Sakho
Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson scores their first goal

Three of Monk’s best Swansea City signings came through strengthening the spine of the team.
Lukasz Fabianski was signed on a free transfer from Arsenal, and has become one of the most dependable goalkeepers in the Premier League at Swansea, away from the spotlight of The Emirates.
Gylfi Sigurdsson is their key man in attack, netting an impressive winner over Chelsea late this season, while Argentine international Federico Fernandez has struck up a solid partnership with Ashley Williams at centre-back.
The bad
Swansea City’s Marvin Emnes

Swansea’s Nelson Oliveira celebrates scoring their first goal

For the good, there is also the bad, and these three players, all attackers, failed to shine under Garry Monk.
Emnes barely featured over the past two seasons, and did not score when he did play, while winger Modou Barrow ended up on loan at Nottingham Forest.
Monk had hoped Nelson Oliveira would be a coup on loan, but he scored only once for Swansea, and while he impressed in spurts at Nottingham Forest on another loan last season, it is unlikely Monk would look for a reunion at Leeds.
