New Leeds United player Pierre-Michel Lasogga has been speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post about the prospect of making his debut for the Whites this weekend, with one potential barrier seemingly not getting in his way.

The 25-year-old arrived at Elland Road on loan from Hamburg late last month and Leeds fans will be keen to see him pull on the shirt for the first time.

The problem is: Lasogga’s partner is due to give birth to their first child on Sunday – 24 hours after Leeds face Burton Albion in the Championship.

Despite that life-changing moment, the new Leeds forward is focusing purely on football…at least for now.

“Of course it’s very important that the baby’s coming but first I will look at the football,” Lasogga told the YEP.

“If the baby comes on Saturday, first I have to play and then I’ll look at what happens. It’s (due) this Sunday and I hope the baby comes a little bit later but I’ll be happy when it does because it’ll make it a lot easier.”

Leeds supporters eager to see their side maintain their impressive start to the new campaign will no doubt be pleased by the loan signing’s priorities.

While others would be focused on imminent fatherhood Lasogga is all about the football and, while it would be interesting to see how that goes down with his girlfriend, it is clear the German forward wants to make the best possible start to life in Yorkshire.

Leeds have all the necessary components to finally earn promotion back to the top flight this season, and they need Lasogga to play to his full potential, starting with Saturday’s return to domestic action.
