Liverpool and West Ham United have been given new hope in their pursuit of Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.
Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette
The Hammers had a big bid for the France striker turned down before the start of the season while Liverpool are reportedly lining up a summer bid with Daniel Sturridge’s future uncertain, as reported by the Mirror.
According to The Sun, Lyon have already agreed a deal with Atletico Madrid for Lacazette’s services this summer which looked to have put paid to any hopes Slaven Bilic or Jurgen Klopp had of landing the 25-year-old.
But both clubs, and potentially Arsenal who have also been credited with an interest, have been offered new hope after Lyon director Bernard Lacombe admitted on French radio station RMC he is worried about the possible departure of their star striker.
“The departure of Alex would be very difficult for our club, because even if we could make lots of money, he is an immense player and I do not think that we will understand the magnitude of his departure fully until it happens,” Lacombe told RMC.
Goal getter Lacazette
“Then, it will be a lot more difficult for us, even if we make a good decision on the replacement that would come in.
“I do not know which team he will go to. I hope for only one thing, that he will stay with us for another year, or two, because he is an immense player.”
Should Lacazette leave it will undoubtedly more likely be to Anfield, where the Reds may be able to offer him the added carrot of Champions League football.
Daniel Sturridge
And that could spark a transfer triangle between the Hammers, Liverpool and Lyon with injury-prone England forward Sturridge looking increasingly likely to leave.
The East Londoners have been credited with a longstanding interest in the former Chelsea striker and if Klopp does manage to snare Lacazette it could facilitate Sturridge’s return to London.
