The New England Patriots made a pop culture reference to WWE star Roman Reigns in a social media post shared ahead of Super Bowl LX.
The reference appeared on the Patriots’ official X account through posts featuring players and staff wearing traditional Polynesian garlands.
The captions used by the team echoed catchphrases closely associated with Reigns’ on-screen persona.

Patriots reference Roman Reigns on social media
The Patriots first shared a video showing defensive lineman Khyiris Tonga, who is of Samoan descent, wearing a traditional Polynesian garland.
The video then showed Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel wearing a similar garland. The team captioned the video with the phrase “We the ones.”
The phrase is a direct reference to WWE star Roman Reigns, who popularised it while leading his Samoan dynasty-based faction known as The Bloodline.
OTC caption adds second Roman Reigns reference
Roman Reigns refers to himself as the Tribal Chief and more recently as the OTC, short for Original Tribal Chief.
The nickname is central to his portrayal as the leader of his on-screen wrestling family. After the initial video, the Patriots shared a second image of Mike Vrabel wearing the Polynesian garland.
The caption on the image read simply “OTC,” reinforcing the Roman Reigns reference. The posts were shared as part of the Patriots’ Super Bowl LX buildup.
It is a reference Reigns may not appreciate, given his long-standing support for the San Francisco 49ers rather than any other NFL team.
