La Liga sensation Iddrisu Baba is having an “incredible season”, Real Mallorca coach Luis Garcia Plaza has told Marca of a man linked with a move to Premier League giants Everton.

This week, the Liverpool Echo reported Everton were already holding talks over two positions as the January transfer window looms on the horizon.

Alongside a winger, a box-to-box central midfielder is understood to be high on the club’s agenda. And that should come as no surprise given the Toffees have conceded seven times in their past two games since the injury-enforced absence of Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Tom Davies looked all at sea during the 5-2 battering by Watford, drowning as the tide turned in a traumatic second half at Goodison Park. Meanwhile at Wolves on Monday night, Jean-Philippe Gbamin struggled badly during his first start in more than two years.

But while the Echo named no names, reports coming out of Spain suggest one of La Liga’s surprise packages could be the man to jump-start Rafa Benitez’s stuttering engine room.

Iddrisu Baba could be Everton’s new Abdoulaye Doucoure

“So far, Baba has been the best of the team,” Garcia Plaza says of the 25-year-old Ghana international, who averages 2.8 tackles per game and is famed for his dynamic dribbling ability.

“He is having an incredible season. He not only cuts out balls, he creates goals and helps in attack. I have already told him he has to continue working – but he has become indispensable.”

According to La Razon, Everton have expressed an interest in the late-blooming Iddrisu Baba, with Mallorca willing to negotiate a fee well below his £38 million release clause.

Interestingly, Baba was lined up to replace Thomas Partey in Diego Simeone’s Atletico side last summer.

Meanwhile, a potential move to the other side of the Spanish capital – a Real Madrid team now under the stewardship of ex-Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti – broke down due to a “dispute behind the scenes”.
