Fabrizio Romano says there is ‘optimism’ that Martin Odegaard will now sign a new contract at Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

The Arsenal captain has led the Gunners to an unbeaten start in the Premier League this season, including scoring during his side’s win over Manchester United before the international break.

But now Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has posted on Twitter that Arsenal ‘keep working’ on a new deal for Martin Odegaard.

During the previous campaign, the 24-year-old produced the best season of his career, scoring 15 goals, including supplying eight assists, as Arteta’s side blew their lead at the top of the table and handed the title to Manchester City.

Signed for £30 million from Real Madrid in 2021 (Sky Sports), in this crazy footballing and overinflated transfer market, that is proving to be a very good deal from the club.

Nonetheless, Odgeaard now has less than two years left to run on his contract and Romano dropped the following update overnight.

New Martin Odegaard contract at Arsenal

“Arsenal keep working on Ødegaard’s new deal with optimism,” said Romano

Can Odegaard lead Arsenal to the Premier League title?

Arsenal had one hand on the trophy last season, but for one reason or another, they blew their lead at the top and opened the door for Manchester City to flatten them.

There are no issues with what Arteta and his players produce for 85% of the season because it’s all title-worthy.

But it’s those final few months that they need to stick their chest out and prove that they are able, or else, that wait to become English champions again will only go on.
