‘New chance’: Reported £3.5m Rangers target explains why move didn’t happen

Patrik Hrosovsky has said a change of manager at Genk was why he didn’t leave Belgium for Rangers during the transfer window, speaking to Sport24.

Put simply, Hannes Wolf didn’t fancy the 25-time Slovakia international.

Hrosovsky was left out of Wolf’s Genk squad for the opening five Jupiler League games this season, with speculation surrounding the midfielder’s future growing daily.

in August, iSport claimed Rangers were interested in a deal that would set them back about £3.5 million.

Steven Gerrard’s side spent pretty much the entirety of the window scouring the market for a box-to-box enforcer capable of starting attacks as well as stopping them.

And, before the Gers returned to Bongani Zungu, Hrosovsky was one of the many names under consideration.

But, once Wolf was hunted down and sacked after a 5-2 thumping by Beerschot in September, Hrosovsky was back in favour.

“In the end, (a move away) didn’t happen,” the former Viktoria Plzen ace explains.

“I communicated well with the old coach (Wolf). He was very communicative and thanks to that I knew what I was up to.

“But now (he’s gone), I got a new chance.”

One of the first orders by Wolf’s replacement, former Gent boss Jess Thorup, was to reinstate Hrosovsky in the first XI.

The midfielder has now started each of the last three Jupiler League games.
