One of Celtic’s January additions has been opening up about his feelings regarding the club.

New Celtic signing Gary Mackay-Steven has been speaking to a press conference about the reasons he opted for a move to the Scottish giants.

The former Dundee United player had already agreed a pre-contract with Celtic but his move was fast-tracked after a £2million double deal for him and teammate Stuart Armstrong was agreed on transfer deadline day.

In comments published by Celtic’s official Twitter account, Mackay-Steven explained the reasons for moving on, after 131 appearances for Dundee United.

The 24-year-old said of his new side: “The club is world-renowned and it’s an unbelievable arena to play your football in.

“There’s the European football aspect, too, and there are just a number of things. They play football the right way here.”

Mackay-Steven scored 27 goals and provided 37 assists for his former club, while he also netted twice and set up an additional three during a brief spell at Airdrieonians.

He has been capped once by the senior Scotland side and he is likely to be hoping for more international recognition following his big move, to a club he clearly cannot wait to get started with.
