Liverpool have seemingly made an approach to sign an attacking midfielder.

According to Record in Portugal, the Premier League champions have touched base with Sporting Lisbon about bringing Pedro Goncalves – better known as Pote – to Anfield.

But the report claims that Liverpool have no chance of signing the former Wolves playmaker until this summer at the earliest.

The 22-year-old has 12 goals and two assists for the Portuguese outfit this season, from only 13 league games.

Here’s how fans of the Anfield club reacted to the speculation on Twitter:

Whether it’s Pote or not, Liverpool should absolutely try to sign a number 10 this summer.

If Diogo Jota is Roberto Firmino’s long-term replacement on Merseyside, which looks to be the case, then Jurgen Klopp is going to need somebody else to link midfield and attack.

A quality number 10 can transform a team – as Bruno Fernandes has proven with Manchester United – and Liverpool, if they fail to defend their Premier League title, are going to need a bit of a revamp in the summer.

And maybe Pote can spearhead that transformation.
