At one point in the season it looked as though Birmingham City might be challenging for a play-off spot under Gary Rowett.
He was then unceremoniously turfed out, Gianfranco Zola was a disaster as his replacement and Harry Redknapp was brought in to save the club, staying up on the final day of the campaign.
Now they are looking to strengthen ahead of next term, with a new director of football brought in to help. Jeff Vetere was appointed last week and will be looking to help Redknapp turn Birmingham back into promotion contenders.
If he is to do so, he will need to last longer than he did in his last spell in the Midlands.
Darren Bent at Aston Villa
Vetere has previously worked at Birmingham’s biggest rivals Aston Villa. He joined up with the club in November 2010 to work with Gerard Houllier at Villa Park.
He played a key role in the signing of Darren Bent in January 2011 but, as reported by the Mirror, he could not agree with the club on future transfer targets and left in March 2011 after less than three months in charge.
Birmingham fans will be hoping he has a more telling contribution at St Andrews than he did at Aston Villa.
