New Birmingham City boss Gianfranco Zola has discussed his January transfer plans.
New Blues boss Gianfranco Zola explained how the process of player recruitment will be a lot simpler than it was during his time spent as Watford manager, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
The Italian replaced Gary Rowett as Birmingham manager on Wednesday, with his side currently sitting in eighth position in the Championship table, just three points adrift of the promotion play-off spots.

And Zola discussed the possibility of potential incomings during the January transfer window, when speaking to the media, explaining how he will have more options than he did throughout his spell at Vicarage Road, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail:
“Watford was a different thing. The system they had was different, they had three teams. Birmingham doesn’t have this system. The process will start by addressing and evaluating what we’ve got and then we’ll go with the positions we need to improve. If we believe that in Chelsea there might be players that can help, then we can ask. We have a good relationship with them.”

There are plenty of areas where Zola will have to strengthen his Birmingham side, if they are to mount a sustained challenge for promotion to the Premier League.
The one thing that remains unclear is how much he will have to spend, to help him improve his squad, or whether he will just look for loan signings, to help make a short-term impact.
Following this evening’s loss against Brighton & Hove Albion, Birmingham face a crucial set of fixtures as they head into the new year, and Zola will be looking to hit the ground running with a run of victories.
