Arsenal new boy Alex Runarsson has admitted that he’s a fan of one Tottenham Hotspur player.
It was announced on Monday that the 25-year-old had signed for the Gunners on a four-year contract from Dijon.
The Icelandic goalkeeper has been recruited as a replacement for Emiliano Martinez, who joined Aston Villa last week.
Being a goalkeeper, Runarsson is always going to have a special affinity for those who play in the same position as him.
And the Arsenal signing has admitted that he’s been an admirer of Spurs captain Hugo Lloris – and his style of goalkeeping.
He told the club’s official website during his first interview: “Growing up I always liked the modern style of goalkeepers, the ones who play in a similar style to how I do.
“I enjoyed watching Hugo Lloris when he came to the Premier League, playing high outside the box.”
He might play for the enemy, Arsenal’s North London rivals, but Lloris has been a huge player for Tottenham down the years.
In fact, he even won a World Cup with France a couple of years ago and in terms of idols, Runarsson can do a lot worse.
It’ll be interesting to see if Mikel Arteta gives the Iceland international a senior debut tonight.
The North Londoners visit Leicester City in a League Cup clash and with that competition historically used to give the second-string players some minutes, Runarsson might fancy his chances.
