Everton players Neville Southall (l) and striker Graeme Sharp lift the trophy after their 1984 FA Cup final victory against Watford at Wembley Stadium on May 19, 1984 in London, England.

Everton legend Neville Southall has posted an inspirational message on Twitter, drawing on his own experiences at the Goodison Park club, and many Toffees fans responded to him with praise.

Southall, one of the best goalkeepers of his generation, is active on social media as a staunch supporter of numerous causes and social issues including mental health, LGBT rights, fighting poverty, housing and more.

On Twitter, the former Wales international sought to inform of how mistakes should not be deemed as failure, but rather an opportunity to learn, posting the following tweet to his followers:

Southall is widely deemed one of Everton’s best ever players, with 750 appearances for the Merseyside club in all competitions under his belt, plus numerous trophies including two First Division titles, two FA Cups, a European Cup Winners’ Cup and three Charity Shields.

Here is how some Toffees fans responded to Southall’s tweet, including his own replies:

In 2004, Southall was voted Everton’s all-time cult hero by BBC Football Focus viewers, winning with 74 percent of the vote ahead of fellow Everton fan favourites Alan Ball and Duncan McKenzie (BBC Sport).
