Neville Southall has reacted on Twitter to Everton’s defeat on Sunday by suggesting that Tottenham are the best side that he has seen at Goodison Park for a long time.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have moved to within two points of Manchester City in second in the Premier League table after a superb 6-2 victory against the Toffees.

It had actually been Marco Silva’s side who struck the first blow as former Arsenal man Theo Walcott broke the deadlock after 21 minutes. Six minutes later however, Spurs were level through Heung-min Son.

Dele Alli and Harry Kane would make the score 3-1 to the visitors at the break, while Christian Eriksen added to the lead immediately after the interval.

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s goal seemed to hand Everton a lifeline. But Son and Kane would both score again to ensure that Pochettino’s side would take the three points in emphatic fashion.

It was a remarkably clinical performance from Tottenham and is perhaps a display that will leave many insisting that they cannot be discounted from the title race, with just six points separating the top three.
