The 27-year-old put in a towering display to help his side secure a valuable clean sheet in a hostile Goodison Park atmosphere.
Over the course of the season, the Reds have conceded just 15 goals from their 29 Premier League matches, with the presence and calmness of Van Dijk playing a huge part in that.
Nonetheless, after the match, former Toffees goalkeeper Southall posted this urgent message on his personal Twitter account for Marco Silva’s side as he praised Van Dijk for his performance.
Van Dijk moved to Anfield from Southampton during the 2018 January transfer window, guiding them to the Champions League final as he will be hoping to lift some silverware this term.
There was pressure on both teams coming into this fixture, with the red side of Merseyside chasing the title and the blue side trying to prove their worth under Silva.
The result is more costly for Liverpool because it means they are now a point behind Manchester City in the Premier League table and will now be chasing their title rivals for that top spot with nine games of the season remaining.
As for the Toffees, they are 10th in the table, two points clear of 11th-placed Leicester City and six points behind seventh-placed Wolves, who beat relegation-threatened Cardiff on Saturday.
