Gary Neville was not impressed with United in the first half today…
Manchester United faced something of an important tie against Crystal Palace this evening – after a tough season sees them going to Selhurst Park without the once trademark swagger The Red Devils would have 12 months ago.
It has been a busy week at Old Trafford. They tied down Wayne Rooney to a new long-term deal – worth £300k-a-week – and that was supposed to give them a boost into this game.
But you would not have thought it in the first half.
United struggled to get into any rhythm in the first half – and while they seemed to step away from the relentless crossing game that did them no favours against Fulham recently, they still looked like scoring a goal was out of their reach for much of the opening 45.
They passed the ball around aplenty, but continually came up against a brick wall in defence – and at the back they looked flakey – and Palace had chances.
One former Manchester United player summed it up perfectly.
Gary Neville, now an analyst on Sky Sports, was watching the game – and he had this to say at half-time:
Luckily United came out better in the second half – and thanks to the clumsiness of Marouane Chamakh the game opened up and United won the game 2-0.
But if they continue to play in this almost absent minded manner as they did in the first-half – things will not get any better any faster for David Moyes and co.
