Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand have heaped enormous praise on the work rate of Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz after his wonderful performance in another below-par result for the Reds on Monday night – a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.
Liverpool failed to make their first-half domination pay, as Palace scored the opener on the counter. Wilfried Zaha bursting past the Reds defence, before curling past Alisson. Darwin Nunez was then sent off for a straight red card.
The club-record Liverpool signing headbutted Joachim Andersen and he was given his marching orders. But Diaz took the game by the scruff of the neck, and curled home a wonderful effort to make it 1-1. The scoreline remained.
It is just two points from the opening two games, and Manchester City now sit four points clear already. A poor start for the Reds, but Diaz continues to earn praise. Ferdinand took to Twitter to dish out huge praise on the Colombian.
Meanwhile, Gary Neville told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports that Diaz’s work rate is unbelievable: “His tracking back, his pressing. His energy in the game, his dispossessing of the opposition teams is absolutely unbelievable.”
Neville and Ferdinand praise Liverpool attacker Diaz
What a signing he has been for Liverpool. It was a night of opposites for two South American attackers for the Merseyside club. Jurgen Klopp has said he will speak to Nunez after his ridiculous red card in the coming days.
He will be banned for three Premier League games, now. But for Diaz, he goes from strength to strength. It is crazy to think he only moved to England in January, but he has taken to the English tempo and physicality like a duck to water.
Unlike Nunez, he channels his aggression and frustration into relentless, ruthless work rate. Constant pressing, constant tracking back, and twins that with incredible quality in the final third. What a player Liverpool have on their hands.
