Darren Ambrose has waxed lyrical about Arsenal’s January capture of Jorginho and how he ‘never loses the ball’.

The former midfielder, who is a boyhood Tottenham fan, added that Jorginho is playing a lot more for Mikel Arteta than he first expected following his transfer from Chelsea, as he told Sky Sports News (01/03/23)

Thomas Partey’s recent injury, which he returned from during the 4-0 thumping of Everton on Wedneaday night, has been a big reason behind Jorginho’s regular starts.

It will be interesting to see how the 31-year-old is used by Arteta and whether Partey will take his place in the XI or Granit Xhaka’s.

Either way, it’s a great headache for the Arsenal boss to have and it’s a big reason why he bulked up the squad during the winter transfer window.

And Tottenham-mad pundit, Darren Ambrose, even though he is looking at it from the other side, is a big fan of the player.

“Jorginho, he is a winner,” said Ambrose. “He won a lot of things when he was at Chelsea. He shows that.

“I thought they would use him as a player to see off games at the end. He never loses the ball, does he, Jorginho?! I thought that would be the kind of role he would have had.

“It turns out that he’s now in the starting team, so he has a lot to give than that.”

JORGINHO GETTING BETTER

Everton, Brentford and Manchester City were Jorginho’s first three games in Arsenal colours. The start of their mini blip.

‘The words ‘Agent Jorginho’ were being thrown about by the Chelsea faithful because they thought this move was proving to be a disaster for their London rivals.

But, since his last-minute strike helped Arsenal beat Aston Villa, he hasn’t looked back because, both the player and the team, are now flying.

That’s three wins on the bounce, added with back-to-back clean sheets, with relegation-threatened Bournemouth visiting the Emirates on Saturday.
