Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, David Seaman has been discussing this weekend’s north London derby and Harry Kane’s penalty.
The England captain continued his fantastic record from the spot against the Gunners, but rather than smashing the ball into the corner as he usually does, Kane neatly dinked the ball straight down the middle, sending Aaron Ramsdale the wrong way.
Seaman hailed Kane’s penalty, stating that it was interesting that he knew that Ramsdale would go the wrong way after likely spending a few days training alongside each other for England.
Kane’s clever penalty
Seaman expressed his surprise around Kane’s penalty technique.
“Another thing that made me laugh was Harry Kane with his penalty. He went right down the middle, that was pretty cool that because he’ll have known that Aaron will have been watching, they’ll have practiced in the international break and I’ve not seen him do that very often and that’s why he’s so good at that. He changes all the time, against Germany it was the top corner, but this was straight down the middle, I never thought he would do that,” Seaman said.
Unexpected
We didn’t see this type of penalty coming, and most importantly, neither did Aaron Ramsdale.
Rather than being about skill, a penalty kick if often a battle of wits between a goalkeeper and the taker, and Kane certainly had Ramsdale’s number on this occasion.
As Seaman said, Kane will have been well aware of the fact that Ramsdale knows his penalty routine inside out, and, in turn, he changed things up and went with a technique he doesn’t usually utilise.
It worked this time, but we wouldn’t recommend going down the middle from penalties all that often, especially as Kane’s shots into the corners are usually laser-guided.
