Some Liverpool fans on social media can’t believe what they’re hearing after Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Joel Matip will be missing the rest of the season due to injury.
“Unfortunately, we found out now after everybody looked at it that Joel will be out for the rest of the season,” Klopp told the club website.
To be fair, it is hard to believe that a team could be so unlucky to have all three of their senior centre-backs go down with season-ending injuries, but Liverpool are in that exact situation.
Indeed, we can understand exactly why Liverpool fans have had this sort of reaction to this highly implausible news, as it does represent some absolutely rotten luck.
Fortunately, the blow has been softened a bit by the arrivals of Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies.
The response online was that of shock and surprise, after all, Matip’s problem didn’t seem to be that serious during the Tottenham game, but the medical team at Anfield have now discovered his problem, and it looks serious.
It’s almost unprecedented to see such an unlucky run of injuries in one position, but no matter how improbable something is, there’s still a chance of it happening.
