Harry Kane told the ITV Football Show Podcast that he is now starting to think about getting 20 assists in the Premier League this season for Tottenham.

The England captain admitted that when it came to assists it ‘wasn’t something’ he was thinking about when the season started, but those four assists during Tottenham’s thumping win at Southampton has now made him consider the unthinkable.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry holds the record for most assists in a single Premier League season [20] and it would be something if he were to be toppled by a Spurs player.

Either way, Kane was asked about adding assists to his game this season and he shared it would be ‘amazing’ to get 20 assists this term and it’s something that is now on his mind.

“It wasn’t something I was really thinking about,” said Kane. “I think this season, the final product [the passing] has been a lot better and I think we have been finishing the chances a lot better.

“But I have always dropped into that number 10 role. I always played as a 10 as a youth team player and backed myself as a passer, a player who can switch the ball and have different aspects to his game.

“Now that I am on eight assists and seven goals then I am starting to think ‘of course it would be amazing to then get to 20 assists’ or whatever the aim maybe. Yes, it’s been great for me. It’s been good to hear people speak and give you praise about all parts of your game. But for me, whether I score or assist, it doesn’t really bother me.

On thinking more about assists now after he provided the four v Southampton: “It kind of comes so quickly. It was like four assists one game, you are at the top of the assists charts and I have never been there before. I know you [Andros Townsend] will be chasing me down a little bit.”

Kane currently has eight assists to his name and it seems as though he is going to pick out teammate Heung-Min Son on one of his lung-busting runs every time he gets onto the pitch.

But previous seasons have shown, players have reached double figures in the assists charts in no time, but as the season progresses, they wear out.

If Kane is sitting near the 20 assists mark, and with 20+ goals at the end of the season, then that won’t only mean he’s remained injury-free, but Spurs may have a certain trophy in their hands because it’s those types of performances which will get them there.
