Paul Scholes has claimed that Tomas Soucek ‘never really plays football’ but the West Ham midfielder is ‘sensational’ in both boxes, as he told Premier League Productions (24/10/21 at 1:55 pm).
The Premier League legend compared West Ham’s hard-hitting midfielder to a man David Moyes coached at Everton and Manchester United – Marouane Fellaini.
Just like the Belgian, Soucek has showcased this great knack of making Frank Lampard-esque runs into the penalty area and scoring crucial goals for the Hammers.
And if he’s not doing that, then he is using his powerful frame to be a threat from dead-ball situations or be that battering ram that keeps balls out of his own area.
Either way, both Michael Owen and Scholes shared that they like what they see from Soucek.
“He loves running late into the box,” said Owen. “He’s a threat. Every time I watch Soucek play, he either scores or has a great chance.”
Scholes added: “He reminds me so much of Fellaini at Everton. Never really involved in the game. Never really plays football. But in both boxes, he is sensational.”

Soucek’s signing is just another prime example of David Moyes working his magic in the transfer market.
During his Everton days, given the limited amount of money they could spend, the Scotsman was eagle-eyed in who he would bring to the club.
That resulted in him signing a number of bargain players from Seamus Coleman for just £60,000 to Steven Pienaar for £2 million.
Many, many years later, that talent-spotting ability has helped him sign some top players for the Hammers, including Soucek and his fellow countryman Vladimir Coufal.
