Wojciech Szczęsny was back on familiar ground on Wednesday night, as the one-time Arsenal man saw his Poland side lose 2-1 to England at Wembley.
The 30-year-old, who was sold by Arsenal in 2017 for £12 million (Independent), has vastly improved over the years and that was showcased during last night’s World Cup qualifier.
Even though Szczęsny was on the losing side, Arsenal supporters liked what they saw from the much-improved Juventus man.
He made a number of good saves during the game and was brave and commanding when he decided to rush out to deal with danger.
The only negative was the fact that a Tottenham striker in Harry Kane scored past him from the penalty spot, but just like both the goals scored, he couldn’t do much about them.
But Szczęsny’s performance did raise the question from the Arsenal faithful as to why they sold the thriving star.
Previously, Arsenal had a number of issues from those players that stood between their stick, but that’s all changed.
Their current stopper, Bernd Leno is an underrated figure in the Premier League, Emi Martinez has been one of the best performers this season at Aston Villa, whilst Szczęsny is doing his thing in Turin.
Not forgetting, Łukasz Fabiański, who was sat on the bench yesterday, performing very well at West Ham.
Either way, current and former Arsenal keepers are thriving around Europe.
Here is a selection of the Arsenal faithful reacting to Szczęsny’s display at Wembley last night:
