So with Het Nieuwsblad reporting Liverpool have identified the brilliant 24-year-old ball-player as a leading candidate to fill a Gini Wijnaldum-shaped hole in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield, you get the feeling signing Tielemans this summer would be a challenge akin to tattooing the Liver Bird on Gary Neville’s chest.
Klopp has already ruled out the prospect of Jadon Sancho or Kylian Mbappe arriving during a market still strained by the rippling effects of covid-19.
Tielemans might not cost as much as Sancho – but he wouldn’t be far off.
