Trevor Sinclair told talkSPORT (25/08/21 at 12:55 pm) that there are sections of Tottenham supporters that will ‘never forgive’ Harry Kane for his actions.

The former England winger was responding to Kane posting on Twitter that he is staying at Tottenham after interest from Manchester City.

Given that Kane has come out and stated that he will be staying in North London ‘this summer’, it proves that all the talk about him in recent weeks has been true, else why would you need to talk about your future when you have years left on your contract?

But, after Euro 2020, a lot was made of Kane not turning up for training when scheduled and the saga around it all.

Sinclair thinks that is something that will haunt Kane forever, and regardless of what he does in Spurs colours, it won’t be forgotten about by some of those in the stands.

“Huge news,” said Sinclair. “I was expecting it. When the figures started being announced, £125-150 million, I thought that was stretching it too far for a 28-year-old. History with injuries. Although his numbers were superb.

“Fair play to Daniel Levy. He’s in charge of this situation. I think the biggest winner of this situation is Levy.

“For me, he has damaged his reputation with some of the fans and they will never forgive him. It doesn’t matter if he scores hat-trick after hat-trick.

“They will never forgive him with the way he has come across in the media and the silence as well. Coming back late from training. I don’t think some of the fans will ever forgive him that.”

Judging by the reception Kane got from the Spurs away fans on Sunday, it seems as though he doesn’t have too much to worry about.

It will be interesting if he features tonight in the Europa Conference League because if he does then there’s no doubt that the supporters will be chanting ‘he is one of our own’.

Even though all of this Kane talk would have and should have been a distraction, the new man in Tottenham’s dugout has dealt with it all in a superb fashion.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s poker-like face, cool, calm and collected manner has seen him deal with this situation, which was there before he arrived, in a way that has probably won him more plaudits from the Spurs support.
