Arsenal and Liverpool supporters praised Raheem Sterling following his performance during England’s 1-0 win against Croatia on Sunday.
Sterling scored the only goal of the game as the Three Lions opened their account with a much-deserved three points – with Arsenal and Liverpool’s fans keeping an eagle-eye on the Manchester City man.
Some were questioning before the game whether the ex-Liverpool man should start, but he justified that call with his goal and a strong overall display.
It was his indifferent form in the Premier League this season that has raised those questions and even resulted in rumours claiming that Arsenal want to sign him this summer, as reported by the Daily Mail.
That would be quite the shock if Sterling landed on Arsenal’s doorstep this summer, but their fans still liked what they saw from the quick-footed forward.
He was a constant threat in-behind Croatia’s defence and with Harry Kane being quiet during the game, it was the Man City man putting the opposition on the back foot.
Not only was this Sterling’s first goal at a major tournament, but it was also the first time England have won the opening game of a European Championship.
Both were a long time coming, no doubt!
Nonetheless, after questions were raised as to whether Sterling would start the opening game, he has just slotted himself straight into the starting for England’s showdown with Scotland on Friday.
This was the most attacking or free-flowing games by England, but for the opening match, they got the job done.
