Speaking on Vibe with Five, Rio Ferdinand has been discussing Trent Alexander-Arnold after what has been a terrible week for the right-back.
The Liverpool ace has been under the microscope after a torrid performance against Brighton off the back of an international break where he didn’t play a single minute.
His World Cup hopes seem to be going down the drain, but Ferdinand made sure not to forget just how brilliant he has been in recent years.
Indeed, the pundit was full of praise for the job Alexander-Arnold has done in recent years, stating that the England international has changed the way the right-back position is played in this country.

Alexander-Arnold has changed the game
Ferdinand discussed Alexander-Arnold and the criticism he’s been facing lately.
“It’s really important. It’s a big point when you’ve only known success and praise, and rightly so, because he’s been nothing short of remarkable, Changed the right-back position in this country, we’ve seen it before with Dani Alves, but the way he’s played and his assist rate, it’s never been seen before on these shores from a right-back.” Ferdinand said.
Revolutionary
Every now and then you get a player who completely changes the way we view football, and Alexander-Arnold is certainly one of those footballers.
Before his emergence, full-backs were seen as mavericks if they were venturing into the final third more than two or three times per game, but Alexander-Arnold has proven that so-called ‘defenders’ can be their team’s main attacking outlet.
Simply put, we’ve never seen a player like Alexander-Arnold before in the Premier League, but we’ll surely be seeing a few more players in his mould in years to come as countless managers and players will surely have been inspired by this Jurgen Klopp team.
