Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips has posted on Sol Bamba’s Instagram that there was ‘never any doubt’ after he helped knock Manchester United out of the FA Cup.

On Friday night, Middlesbrough rocked up at Old Trafford and beat the Premier League side on penalties after the duo’s 120-minute marathon battle.

Ex-Leeds man Bamba was one of the men who scored during the long-winded and nerve-racking shootout for the Championship side.

The hard-hitting centre-back didn’t start the match, but he was introduced into the action late into extra time by Chris Wilder.

Even though Boro went 1-0 down to a Jadon Sancho goal, and it could have been a lot worse had Cristiano Ronaldo not missed his first-half spot-kick, Wilder’s men continued to fight and eventually took the game to penalties.

After the game, Bamba was, understandably so, delighted at his team progressing through to the Fifth Round, as Phillips posted the following message in the comments section to his IG post.

“Never any doubt,” said Phillips. “Love it big man.”

It has been some journey for Bamba during the past few years after he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2020.

In May 2021, the 37-year-old then announced that he is cancer free and he is now back doing what he does best.

This win probably means more to a player like Bamba because of the journey he has been on and he has showcased great fight, both on and off the field of play.

For Boro, they will now have the wind in their sails and be pretty confident in knocking out anyone that comes in their way for the fifth round of the FA Cup.
