Celtic have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic.

According to German news outlet Fussballeck, Celtic are interested in signing the 29-year-old central defender in the January transfer window.

Since his appointment as the Celtic manager in the summer of 2016, Brendan Rodgers has brought some fantastic players to Celtic Park, such as Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair.

Neven Subotic of Borussia Dortmund speaks to the media during a press conference at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on December 5, 2017 in Madrid, Spain.

Subotic, though, would be Rodgers’ best signing at Celtic yet, if indeed the former Liverpool manager is able to secure the services of the 29-year-old central defender.

True, the Serbian is not the player he was two or three years ago and is a squad player at Dortmund at the moment, but there is no doubt that he would be an instant hit at Celtic.

A classy, ball-playing central defender who has loads of experience in playing in the Champions League, Subotic would be the perfect defender Celtic have been looking for since the departure of Virgil van Dijk to Southampton in the summer of 2015.

Leaving the Bundesliga for the Scottish Premiership would be a step down for Subotic, but if Rodgers can convince the Serbian to make the switch to Celtic Park even on loan, then it would be a massive coup for the Glasgow giants.
