Neven Subotic wants Premier League move – West Brom should make a move

West Bromwich Albion should make a move for Neven Subotic.

According to reports from the Sunday Mirror (printed edition; August 27 – page 63), Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic is eyeing a move to the Premier League.

The 28-year-old defender, who played under Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund, has a year remaining on his contract at the Westfalenstadion and he fancies a move to England.

The Serbian defender joined Dortmund in 2008, and quickly established himself as a key player for the club. He has made over 250 appearances for the Bundesliga club, but has dropped down the pecking order at the club in recent years.

Last season, he joined FC Koln on loan, and made 12 appearances.

Subotic is a loyal character and a strong personality, but it is his quality on the field that earned him a move to Dortmund in the first place.

He went on to form one of Europe’s most-feared defensive partnerships, alongside German centre-back Mats Hummels.

Subotic brings intelligence, strong positional awareness and aggression to the back line.

With this in mind, West Brom should make a move for the Serbian defender. The Baggies are in the hunt for a defender, and Subotic would be a superb addition to their squad.

He is likely to be available for a relatively low fee, but his experience at the highest level could be useful, should West Brom part ways with Jonny Evans.

West Brom do not play a high-line defence, with a high octane tempo. What Pulis asks from his defender is aggression, ability to clear danger and someone who is adept in keeping possession – Subotic fits the bill nicely.
