Barry Bannan put on a man-of-the-match performance as Sheffield Wednesday beat Sunderland in the EFL Cup on Thursday.

The Owls midfielder provided the assist for his side’s second goal – a whipped cross from the right which Adam Reach helped into the far corner with his head – after Marco Matias had pounced on poor defending to put the visitors ahead.

But it wasn’t only those present at the Stadium of Light treated to Bannan’s display, with the game broadcast live by Sky Sports.

And as the only domestic game on, plenty of neutrals also bore witness – many of whom appear to like what they saw.

This is what they’re saying about the Sheffield Wednesday man on Twitter…

Bannan is one of several players in the final year of his Sheffield Wednesday contract, leaving the Owls vulnerable to offers in the final days of August and the ensuing January window – should the situation remain unresolved.

Whether the 28-year-old’s Sunderland performance increases the likelihood of offers arriving, however, remains to be seen.
