Netflix has confirmed the release of a new Michael Schumacher documentary titled Schumacher 94, which will revisit the seven-time world champion’s first Formula 1 title season and is scheduled for global release in 2026.
The streaming platform has announced the release of a new documentary as part of its upcoming non-fiction slate. The project was announced during its What Next? 2026 presentation, with a global launch planned for 2026.
A specific release date has not yet been confirmed. Netflix has positioned the film as a feature-length non-fiction project rather than a series.
The documentary focuses exclusively on the 1994 Formula 1 season, when Schumacher secured his first world championship driving for Benetton. That title marked the beginning of his rise to becoming one of the most successful drivers in the sport’s history.
The film is directed by Christin Freitag and produced by LEONINE Documentaries. Schumacher’s wife Corinna is also featured in the documentary.
How Schumacher 94 fits into Netflix’s wider coverage
The 1994 campaign remains one of the most dramatic seasons in Formula 1 history and included the fatal accident of Ayrton Senna at Imola. The championship battle ran to the final round of the season.
Schumacher secured the title by a single point following a decisive collision with Damon Hill at the Adelaide season finale. That outcome has remained a central reference point in discussions of the season.
The new film follows Netflix’s previous Schumacher documentary released in 2021, which covered the full arc of his career. That earlier project took a broader biographical approach.
By contrast, Schumacher 94 narrows its focus to a single season that launched Schumacher’s championship success. Netflix has framed the project as a historical examination of a pivotal year in Formula 1.
The documentary is expected to offer a concentrated account of the season that defined the start of Michael Schumacher’s record-breaking career. Its release in 2026 will place renewed attention on one of Formula 1’s most consequential campaigns.
LEGO unveils Michael Schumacher Ferrari Icons set
Alongside the documentary announcement, LEGO has announced a new Icons series set featuring Michael Schumacher and the Ferrari F2004. The release forms part of the company’s Formula 1-themed collection.
The set is scheduled for release in March and includes a detailed Ferrari model and a Schumacher minifigure. It reflects the continued commercial interest in Schumacher’s Formula 1 legacy.
