Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson is on the verge of joining Feyenoord.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported that Nelson will sign a contract extension with Arsenal until 2023 and join Feyenoord on loan.

The 21-year-old winger is on his way to the Netherlands now, according to Romano.

Football.London reported earlier today that Nelson was going to move to Feyenoord on a season-long loan deal.

Sensible decision

It is a very sensible decision of Arsenal to send Nelson out on loan to Feyenoord.

After all, the 21-year-old is relatively inexperienced and was going to struggle to play for Mikel Arteta’s side this season.

Yes, the Englishman could have turned out for the Arsenal youth teams, but he is 21 now and needs to play competitive football to grow and develop.

Feyenoord are a big and ambitious club in the Eredivisie, and Nelson could flourish in the Netherlands.

Nelson could come back to Arsenal next summer a better and more mature footballer.

The youngster is rated highly at Arsenal and was described as “a special player” by manager Arteta in The London Evening Standard in March 2020.

Nelson has played just 19 minutes in the Premier League for Arsenal this season.

During the 2020-21 season, the winger played 70 minutes in the league, and scored one goal and provided one assist in four Europa League appearances.
