Nelly Korda’s improved putting was key to her Chevron Championship victory, but she struck the ball exceptionally well too.

Nelly Korda’s first words after winning The Chevron Championship

Just after holing her putt for par on the final hole to secure a five-shot victory at The Chevron, Korda spoke to reporters.

She was asked to share her immediate feelings after winning her third major championship as a professional.

That was a hard weekend, honestly. Having that big of a lead is not easy, it’s definitely one of the hardest things I’ve had to do mentally, Korda admitted.

I have an amazing support system, an amazing family right behind me, an amazing caddie, and just happy to get it done.

Honestly, what I was telling myself was that I really want to hoist this trophy because I want to show the kids at home that it’s okay to miss short putts and still win a major championship.

You’re going to make mistakes but mentally, you still have to be at 100 per cent. That’s really what I wanted to show. I wanted to show it to myself and also anyone else looking up to me.

Nelly Korda’s wonderful message to her young fans

What a fabulous message that was from Korda.

She has such a huge following of young fans and her performance this week in Houston would have been inspirational to so many.

Now Nelly Korda will have her sights set on chalking off many more major championship victories, after her win at The Chevron Championship on Sunday.

She proved at Memorial Park that winning is always possible if you manage to put disappointing shots behind you quickly.

And the fact that she highlighted that in her post-round interview will undoubtedly resonate with all of her young fans who have aspirations of emulating her one day.
