Rangers have snapped up one striker – and they are being strongly linked with another.

The Gers confirmed just a matter of days ago that Fashion Sakala has signed a pre-contract agreement to join Rangers on a free transfer from Oostende this summer.

Sakala joins Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten in the pecking order up top, whilst Jermain Defoe could yet stay.

Despite the log-jam of strikers, TEAMtalk reported in April that Rangers are close to signing Britt Assombalonga too.

The Middlesbrough striker is out of contract this summer, and they’re ready to let him leave for free despite paying £15million for him in 2017.

His goal record this season may be something of a warning sign though, as Assombalonga has scored just five goals in 1723 minutes of Championship football this term.

Boro now seem pretty happy to let him walk away, and manager Neil Warnock’s latest comments to the Northern Echo are another red flag for the Gers.

Warnock suggested that Assombalonga will be ‘disappointed’ with his goal tally this season, and whilst Rangers may think he’s a bargain on a free transfer, at 28 there maybe concerns over Assombalonga’s quality moving forward.

“We’ll need a bit of luck. I don’t think I’m being disrespectful to the lads that have been here, but we’ve finished tenth without really having a striker this season,” said Warnock.

“In any league, it’s extremely hard to finish high without a striker. I think Britt and Ash would have been disappointed with the outcome. I’m talking about ten goals a season minimum, and I think there’s only really Duncan that’s come up trumps for us,” he added.
