Fulham signed Cardiff City’s Bobby Reid on deadline day.
Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has suggested he valued Bobby Reid at £20 million but decided to let him join Fulham for half that amount after sharing conversations he held with his agent, Wales Online report.
“It was about three weeks ago that I had a phone call from Bobby Reid’s agent saying ‘hypothetically if we got a big bid for him would you consider it?’ I said ‘no, not at all. I am building a team around him this year unless you come with £20million or something silly like that’. That was it as far I was concerned,” Warnock explained.
“Then about 10 days/two weeks later he rang me again and said had I’d considered it. So I knew there was something below the surface. As it’s turned out it’s Fulham he’s set his heart on going to.”
Reid only joined Cardiff last summer from Bristol City for £8.5 million, but a struggle to get going in the Premier League and the Bluebirds’ subsequent relegation to the Championship sees him move on.
Reid spoke to the Fulham’s official website and admitted that he wasn’t suited to Cardiff’s style of play under Warnock and that he was desperate to make the move to Craven Cottage.
The 26-year-old attacker netted 19 Championship goals for Bristol City during the 2017-18 campaign. He has bags of talent, and a similar goal haul this season could make the difference for Fulham in their promotion bid.
The Whites have an abundance of attacking ability in Aleksandar Mitrovic, Anthony Knockaert and Ivan Cavaleiro. Manager Scott Parker, however, must figure out how to accommodate them.
Cardiff fans will question why the Bluebirds have allowed Reid to join a direct Championship rival, but Warnock has plenty of experience and his exit is unlikely to seriously dent Cardiff’s own chances of promotion.
