Neil Warnock has shared to the Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 Live (05/10/20 at 9:40 pm) a text he was going to send Dean Smith when Aston Villa were 6-2 up against Liverpool on Sunday.

The current Middlesbrough boss shared that he was going to say: ‘how does it feel like that now, Dean at 6-2? Let me know will you, with a fag in your mouth against Liverpool’.

It was quite a stunning evening of football at Villa Park and it’s something that will long in the memory of supporters and Smith himself as they put a staggering seven past the champions.

Warnock is well aware of what it’s like coming up against the Premier League champions, as he shared that he was thrilled with Villa’s thumping win.

“I thought the results [on Sunday] were fabulous,” Warnock told BBC Radio 5 Live. “I know it sounds silly, but it did.

“For Villa, to get seven and to get the goals like that. I didn’t want it to be another Liverpool massacre and Man City close by, and nobody else. I love it for some of the lesser teams.

“I was pleased for Dean [Smith] as well. He had a tough season last year. I was going to text him, but I got way late. I was going to text him, I think it was about 6-2, and I was going to say ‘how does it feel like that now Dean at 6-2? Let me know will you, with a fag in your mouth against Liverpool?’”

It will be interesting to see what comes of this result because there have been a lot of crazy action in the Premier League so far.

Only Everton and Villa have 100% records in the Premier League, and whilst it’s still early doors, it’s certainly great to see two traditional football clubs at the top of the table.

Questions are already being asked as to whether something spectacular can happen this season, but that will only become realistic if the likes of Everton and Villa are in a similar position come Christmas time.
