Neil Warnock has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on 14th September on TalkSPORT, that Newcastle United picked up a steal by getting Matt Ritchie.

Newcastle signed Ritchie from Bournemouth during the previous transfer window for a fee of £12 million (Daily Mail).

Although the figure was a sizeable investment for a Championship club, Ritchie has already began to prove his worth – and Warnock feels he was a bargain buy for the Magpies.

“The one player I like is Matt Ritchie, I think that was a steal really,” the former Crystal Palace boss said.

Ritchie has scored one goal and created one in his first six Championship appearances for Newcastle.

The Scottish international has brought a lot of quality to Newcastle’s attack, and already looks to be a key part of Rafael Benitez’s starting line-up.

Ritchie was at his best yesterday evening, as Newcastle picked up a 6-0 win over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

The comprehensive away victory has pushed Newcastle into second place in the table, and extended their winning run to five matches.
