Newcastle United have been relegated from the Premier League and will play in the Championship next season.
Former Leeds United and Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Thursday morning (broadcast from 6am, May 26) that Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez will find it hard in the Championship.
Benitez has decided to remain as the Newcastle manager for the 2016-17 season. The former Liverpool and Chelsea boss will be aiming to get the Magpies back to the Premier League.
Warnock, who knows the Championship inside out, has suggested that the Spaniard is going to find adjusting to life in the second tier of English football tricky.
The former Rotherham United boss has also named three Newcastle players who he thinks are going to leave in the summer transfer window.
“I think Rafa himself will have his eyes opened a little bit because it’s Monday-Tuesday, then it’s Saturday-Sunday, all of the time, the Championship, it’s three games a week a lot of the time, cup competitions,” said Warnock on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Thursday morning (broadcast from 6am, May 26).
“It will not be all roses, I will tell you that now,” added Warnock. “I think he will have to sell people like Sissoko and Townsend, probably Janmaat. There are three or four in there that might go.”
Moussa Sissoko is one of the best players at Newcastle and is a France international. It is hard to see the midfielder playing in the Championship with the Magpies next season.
England international winger Andros Townsend joined Newcastle from Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window, and perhaps the club could convince him to remain at St. James’ Park for the 2016-17 campaign.
As for Daryl Janmaat, Newcastle could struggle to keep hold of the 26-year-old Netherlands international right-back.
