Neil Warnock gives his verdict on Leeds United’s appointment of Paul Heckingbottom

Leeds United have placed Paul Heckingbottom in charge at Elland Road.

Neil Warnock has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT, that he believes Paul Heckingbottom will find things difficult at Leeds United, but he has the ability to cope.

Heckingbottom is regarded as one of the brightest, young managers in the Championship – but he is making a big step up in terms of his managerial career by moving from Barnsley to Leeds.

Warnock believes the 40-year-old is now in charge of one of the biggest clubs in the country, and that will present Heckingbottom with new challenges.

However, Warnock insists that Heckingbottom has what it takes to make a success of his time at Elland Road.

“It’s the biggest club I’ve ever been at. He’ll find it difficult,” Warnock said.

“He’ll have different problems. The problems won’t always be on the field of play. But he’s quite capable, he’s a good manager. Given the rub of the green, he’ll be alright.”

Heckingbottom takes over from Thomas Christiansen at Elland Road, with Leeds on a worrying run of form.

The Whites have failed to win any of their last seven matches across all competitions and have slid down the Championship table.

Heckingbottom will now have to have a flying start to his reign, if Leeds are to make it back into promotion contention.

Heckingbottom will take charge of Leeds for the very first time at the weekend, when they take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
