Aston Villa goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is on loan at the Championship high-flyers for the rest of the season.

Johnstone has bounced back from a mixed first loan spell with the Villans for the second-half of last season and has looked a lot more like a goalkeeper who is ready to help his side secure promotion out of the Championship this term.

His form has certainly silenced a lot of his critics, and Taylor suggested that it would be a huge boost for Villa if they were able to put some kind of deal together that saw the stopper remain at Villa Park for longer.
“For Villa it would be a massive thing,” he said, as reported by the Express and Star. “For us as players we’re enjoying having him with us from Manchester United.

“There’s a reason he’s been kept by that football club for many years – he’s a keeper with great potential and it’s now not only potential, he’s now producing it.”
Villa appear to be the team to catch in the race for the second automatic-promotion spot, with Wolves looking to be almost nailed on to seal the title as they sit 11 points clear of their nearest challengers.
Steve Bruce’s side have won their last six in the league to sit just one point off the top two. And having beaten the likes of Middlesbrough, Bristol City and Sheffield United in that run, it is fair to say that they definitely have the momentum right now.
And if they can secure promotion back to the Premier League this season, their hopes of extending Johnstone’s deal beyond the end of his loan move this summer will surely receive a significant boost.
