Leeds United are seemingly heading into the playoffs after back-to-back defeats over Easter.
Pundit Neil Sullivan has honestly stated that ‘it doesn’t matter’ if Sky Sports are continually broadcasting Leeds United’s games after Sheffield United have played.
On Monday, the Blades beat Hull City in the afternoon, whilst their Yorkshire rivals, whose games was being broadcast live on Sky Sports, kicked off in the evening against Brentford.
By the time a ball was kicked at Griffin Park, Chris Wilder’s side had extended their lead at the top of the Championship table to three points as their neighbours went on to lose their encounter.
Speaking to LS11’s official YouTube account, (24/04/2019), former Premier League goalkeeper Sullivan was asked about Sky Sports constantly broadcasting Leeds’ games and whether Marcelo Bielsa’s side feel the pressure when they have to play after Sheffield United.
“Only if they [Sheffield United] win,” Sullivan told LS11. “If they lose then you say ‘we have got a chance here’. It can kind of work both ways. If you see that they win then you say ‘right, let’s go that way’.
“But it is irrelevant whether they win or not beforehand, you’ve got to do your job. It doesn’t matter if they have won, lost or drawn. You’ve still got to win the game whether they play the day before or a couple of hours before.”
At the weekend, the same scenario will occur again because the Blades host already-relegated Ipswich on Saturday evening, with the Whites hosting Aston Villa on Sunday.
The difference here is that Wilder’s side, who are three points ahead of the third-placed club in the table and with a better goal difference, will all but seal an automatic spot if they can secure maximum points against the Tractor Boys.
But if Sheffield United do drop points then it would blow the race for second spot wide open, with leaders Norwich one point away from sealing their own promotion.
