The out-of-work manager believes the Huddersfield boss should treat any approach from Villa with caution.
Neil Redfearn has told Radio Yorkshire, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail, that Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner should be cautious when considering whether to take over at Aston Villa.
Wagner has emerged as a leading candidate to replace the sacked Roberto di Matteo at Villa Park after impressing hugely at the Terriers.
The former Borussia Dortmund assistant manager led Huddersfield to a 19th-placed finish last season after taking charge in November, but so drastic has been the improvement at the club this term that his side currently sit as surprise leaders of the Championship.
That form has seen his stock rise astronomically, and he is touted as a leading target for the Villa board as they look to finally get an appointment right.
Since the sacking of Paul Lambert, himself an unpopular boss by the end of his tenure, in February 2015, Villa have seen three permanent managers come and go in the form of Tim Sherwood, Remi Garde, and Di Matteo.
Managing Villa may still remain an attractive proposition for many managers because of the size of the club, but Redfearn has sent a dire warning to Wagner.
The former Leeds United and Rotherham United manager told Radio Yorkshire, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail: “I think David Wagner has to be careful. People will expect him to do with Villa what he’s doing at Huddersfield Town.
“Now, it’s whether he would get that chance and that opportunity at Villa, that time to settle and build. They’ve had numerous managers who haven’t been given that time.”
In any case, it is beginning to seem as though it is Steve Bruce who is leading the race to be appointed at Villa Park, with both pundits and bookmakers tipping the former Hull City boss for the job.
