Leeds United dropped another two points on Tuesday night.
Neil Redfearn has told TV Yorkshire that Leeds United must remember the nature of the Championship following their 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night.
Garry Monk’s side looked on course for a fourth straight home win in the Championship after Chris Wood’s 29th-minute opener.
But Wigan hit back at the death with a last-minute equaliser from Shaun MacDonald.
It was a match that Leeds could, and probably should, have killed off long before MacDonald pounced, and former Whites manager Redfearn believes that Monk and his side ought to realise just how cruel the Championship can be.
He told TV Yorkshire: “It’s got to be [two points dropped]. It’s like anything else. If you’re winning and you draw it’s like a defeat, and if you’re losing and you draw it’s like a win.
“I think Leeds have got to realise that it is a tough division and everybody is capable of taking points off each other. They didn’t play to their potential but they still came away with a point.”
United have been in the Championship for long enough that they probably know full well how unpredictable it can be, and if things continue in the same vein then they won’t even bother thinking about promotion this season.
As it stands, Leeds, who lost 1-0 at Derby on Saturday, are only three points off the top six but their form is beginning to be a little worrying again.
They could have quite easily won both games since the international break, which would have had them sixth in the table, but they have dropped five points instead.
Leeds will look to put it right on Saturday when they visit Wolverhampton Wanderers in what will be another test of their mettle.
