Neil Redfearn comments on what Leeds United need to do in the summer transfer window.
Neil Redfearn has been quoted as saying by Inside Futbol that Leeds United striker Chris Wood needs help.
Wood has been one of the best players for Leeds so far this season and is banging in the goals left, right and centre at the moment.
The New Zealand international has scored 24 goals and provided two assists in the league for the Whites so far this campaign.
The 25-year-old has done well playing on his own up front, but former Leeds head coach Redfearn believes that he needs help.
“The obvious one is, not some competition, but some help for Chris Wood up top, so Leeds can maybe go to two up there,” Redfearn is quoted as saying by Inside Futbol while discussing Leeds’s summer transfer plan if they fail to get promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season.
“For me I’d like to see a midfield player that gets hold of the game by the scruff of the neck, a proper mister that gets about people and dictates the play, but does it from midfield and higher up the pitch and in and around the box. [Someone] that’s capable of getting double figures from midfield.”
Redfearn does make a good point about Wood, but the question is whether Leeds would be able to sign the kind of striker that he is talking about.
Since Wood is the clear first-choice striker at Elland Road, would someone with genuine quality be willing to sign for Leeds knowing that he would be playing second fiddle to the New Zealand international?
Perhaps Leeds would have to find a young, promising and hungry striker to act as back-up to and play with Wood.
