Leeds United have made a very poor start to their Championship season.
Neil Redfearn has suggested to TV Yorkshire that Leeds United boss Garry Monk needs to quickly adapt to the Championship, but he does not feel a change of tactics are required.
Monk has stressed that he is trying to create a patient style of play at Leeds, but he has had limited success at Elland Road so far.
The Whites have won just one of their first six Championship matches, and they were awful against Huddersfield Town in their latest outing.
Leeds were beaten 1-0 by their Yorkshire rivals, leading to question marks already being asked of Monk’s management.
Redfearn, who has previously been in charge of Leeds, insists that he feels Monk is the right man for the job – but he has suggested that the former Swansea City manager needs to start learning about the second tier rapidly.
“I just think it’s coming to terms with the Championship,” Redfearn said, when asked whether Monk needs to change tactics.
“All of Garry’s experience has been in the Premier League and he did fantastically well at Swansea. He’s an outstanding, young coach. But this division is a specialist division. You got to have the knowhow to compete. You have to learn how to get results week in, week out.”
Monk was clearly aggravated after Leeds’ defeat to Huddersfield, with his frustration being directed towards the media.
With Massimo Cellino in charge, there are some doubts over how long Monk will last if results continue to be poor.
Leeds take on fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers in their next match, and they are under huge pressure to collect the three points.
